How to Treat Dry Hair at Home

Now that we’re a couple of months into social distancing, a lot of us are seeing our hair lose the shine that it normally holds when we’re in and out of the salon more regularly. Although dealing with dry hair sounds daunting, there are treatments out there that can help you give your hair some TLC at home until you’re able to make appointments with your stylist again.

Conditioning treatments and hair masks not only make your hair appear shinier, but they also help prevent brittle hair from breakage and damage by nourishing your strands with moisture. We consulted some of our talented stylists, Ivy and Marcus, to get their insight on the best practices for deep conditioning at home.

Marcus says that simply using your best conditioner after washing your hair and leaving it in for 15 minutes under a plastic cap can work wonders! The plastic cap helps to hold in the heat from your scalp to activate the conditioner. If you’re looking for a treatment to purchase, he recommends shopping from Kerastase as each of their masks are designed for specific hair types. Their line of products can be shopped on Amazon.

Ivy suggests using masks weekly to add moisture and shine to your hair and also noted that using a plastic cap will help to create moisture and heat that will condition the whole hair shaft. Some of her picks include Oribe’s Masque for Beautiful Color, the Davines NOUNOU Hair Mask, Oloplex 3 Treatment, and Milbon Plarmia Hair Serum in F for fine hair or in M for thicker, color-treated and/or processed hair, all of which are available on Amazon!
