How to Use Braids to Create Texture

Most of us have been social distancing for over a month at this point. Now that we’re finding ourselves past the initial stages of figuring out which hairstyles, loungewear outfits, and makeup looks make work from home easier on us, many of us are still looking for ways to simplify our routines and set habits that will help us after lockdown is lifted.

Braids are proving to be one of the most efficient and simplest yet most stylish ways to add some flair to your hair. Not only can you wear braids as a style within themselves, but you can also use braids to create texture that serves as a great base for any hairstyle. By simply letting your hair dry in braids, you’ll achieve waves that you can wear down or style into other looks!

To use this method, simply allow your hair to air or towel dry about halfway after your regular washing routine - we recommend having your hair damp rather than fully wet because this makes the end result look more natural! Then braid away and allow your hair to finish drying in the braids.

Depending on the look you wish to achieve, you can try french braids, a single dutch braid or standard braids. French braids will create more volume at the top of your head while braids that start lower will leave the top of your hair closer to your natural texture. A single dutch braid will make the back of your hair more voluminous - this method is great for those with naturally thick hair.

Make sure to let your hair dry fully once braided. You can even braid your hair before bed and sleep on it - which makes getting ready in the morning extra easy! Who wouldn’t want to do their hair in their sleep?

Once dry, take out the braids to reveal your wavy hair! Depending on your natural texture and volume, you may need to shake out your hair or comb through it lightly in order to even out your waves.

These waves are super easy to style! They look great in ponytails, half-up-half-down looks, or paired with accessories like cute headbands and hair clips. They also hold up for days and fall nicely, making this method perfect for work from home or busy days during normal life.
