Is the Sun Getting the Best of Your Locks? 5 Hairstylists Give us Tips on How to Prevent Hair Damage in The Summer

August signifies the nearing end of arguably the best time of the year. Whether it’s sitting poolside with an icy drink, or sharing a meal over a picnic with friends, these warmer months have been perfect for cultivating lasting memories with friends. But, there’s one catch: the possibility of hair damage.

In fact, too much exposure to the sun’s UV rays may cause mayhem to your precious locks. Discoloration, dry strands, split ends, thinning, and, our constant enemy, frizziness, are all results of sun damage. Luckily, the Riccardo Maggiore Salon has a few summer-proof tips and products to help combat summer beauty woes.

Below, five of our hairstylists have given us the best tricks and tips. From their favorite summer product to essential advice, they’ll make sure that your summer glow isn’t diminished.

1) Colorist, Marcus : Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray ($48) and Kerastase’s Resistance Ciment Thermique($39)

Cream-based products are colorist Marcus Garcia’s favorite for a reason. They excel in enhancing curls and moisturizing in ways that other methods fall short. It’s no wonder that Kerastase’s Resistence Cement Thermique and Oribe’s Dry texturizing spray are at the top of the colorist’s list for summer hair care. “Oribe’s texturizing spray is a great alternative for dry shampoo because it doesn’t weigh your hair down and is perfect for fighting against frizziness,” he says. “ Kerastasse’s Resistance Ciment Thermique Ciment Thermique is a blow-dry, leave-in, conditioning cream that you apply on towel-dried hair. This cream is thermo-seal glazing and smooths the hair and adds shine, making it easier for styling.”

The brand’s texture lotion also gives a great faux post-beach swim look to hair. “It’s the guys’ version of sea salt spray, but can be used for styling like gel!” With both products, there’s no need to actually take a dip into the ocean (unless you’d like to!).
