As the crisp blue skies of summer fade away, New Yorkers know what’s around the corner -- frightful snowstorms, crazy hair-snapping cold, and dare we say---hat hair? Yikes! This year, plan to head off distressed winter tresses by being prepared! The best way to do this is to start off on the right foot with a hair cut. Get rid of sun ravaged split ends in order to prevent further damage.

Between indoor heating systems and dry cold weather outside, your hair is struggling to retain moisture. So it is best to come in for a deep-conditioning treatment at least once a month. If hair is in very bad condition, you should consider a customized reconditioning treatment or a hydrating treatment. We offer a number of hair treatments to get your tresses back into shape so it remains healthy and shiny during fall and winter. Ask your stylist to recommend the best treatment for your type of hair.

It’s the harsh hair reality of winter – frizz. If you don’t prevent it, you’re bound to have it! In order to combat frizz and retain moisture during your day to day routine, ask about Riccardo's exclusive hair care line that contains natural botanicals, moisturizers and SPF. We recommend using a dime sized drop of the Rinnova Texturizer daily, it is enriched with botanicals, moisturizers and SPF. The ingredients form a shield on your hair and will help prevent the winter elements from penetrating and damaging it. Then apply Luminoso Anti-frizz drops for a glossy finish that smoothes and seals the hair cuticle with a radiant luster, while also eliminating frizzies and static electricity without leaving hair greasy or sticky.

Beauty Tips

When the seasons change, so should the products you use. You may require heavier or lighter creams, conditioners, shampoos, etc. depending on your skin or hair type. Ask your hair and skin care specialist to recommend products that are right for your hair and skin needs each season.

Your haircut and color should not only compliment your skin tone and eye color, but your face shape, facial features and personality. Be sure your stylist and colorist take these into consideration when designing your look.

There is an order to applying make-up, if you do not do it properly your make-up may not last throughout the day. Our make-up consultants suggests beginning with the eyes by applying concealer on and underneath your eyes, then blend well and set with a nude eye shadow. When applying the shadow apply a medium shade of color on the eyelid then a darker color in the crease and a lighter color on the eyebrow bone. Next is the eyeliner and mascara. Once your done with the eyes apply foundation, powder and blush. Lastly, apply lip liner and lipstick.

Our consultant prefers using powdered eyeliner. Apply the liner by tapping the brush to your eye, do not use strokes you want to gently dot or tap the brush across the lashes to prevent the powder from flaking across your face, Otherwise you can use eyeliner that is semi soft. A liner that is too soft will run and one that is too hard will fade or will be difficult to apply. The pencil eyeliner is ideal when lining the inner eye.

Luscious Red Lips are the latest  fashion statement.  Fortunately there is a red for everyone.  For anyone with a yellow skin tone, stay away from the orange reds and gravitate to the blue reds like wine or ruby.  Vica Versa for the people with blue tunes in the skin you can go for the yellow reds like crimson, or brick red.

Cuts

Versatile cuts are a must-do this season. If you can tousle your hair, quickly coif an enviable bun, wrangle a sleek ponytail, or an ‘I’ve come undone’ loose braid, then you’ve nailed this season’s hair trends! For a small change that leaves a big impact try bangs. Thick bangs are particularly popular and can be easily altered into a new look. The best thing about this season’s trends is that they allow women to be in style, while also being professional at work and fun or sexy on the weekends. Of course the more you work with your texture and hair type and not against it, the less maintenance needed. Consult your stylist to select a look that would work with your face shape, features, lifestyle and grooming requirements.

Color

Mix it up! Fall/winter 2011 is about trying something new. Albeit many are moving towards bold new hues like copper, strawberry, and platinum blond, embrace the challenge of the season and invent a new you! When selecting a new color, stick to a color combination that is a mixture of highlights and lowlights for a more natural look. Blending you color also adds dimension, so hair will not look flat. If you want lighter hair, stick within one or two shades of your hair color. Before changing your color always ask your hair colorist what the process is like, how much time it will take and ask about the maintenance required to make sure it fits your needs.
