Top 2024 Hair Trends for Women
Out with the old and in with the new! 2024 is a year of remodeled 2023 hair trends. This year everything is about maximizing hair volume. Expect to see new takes on curtain bangs and sharp blunt cuts. Hair accessories are all the rage, and this year’s trends will add a bit of flare to simple looks.
Slicked Back Hair
For 2024, our hairstylists see lots of slicked back looks. To create the slicked back hair look, tightly comb the hair back, and tie it with a hairband or hold it in place with hair barrettes. Next, rub a small amount of hair cream or gel into the hands and press the hair back. This look transforms a simple updo to a sleek and chic look.
Miley Cyrus wears her hair slicked back in an elegant bun during her live concert at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles where she sang a cover of Journey’s song “Faithfully.”
Curtain Bangs

The straight styled curtain bangs continue to be a trend this season, but this time it is worn both straight and curly.
Curtain bangs are like a layered fringe. The inner pieces are short and the length of the bangs increases as the hair gets further from the face, moving toward the ears. Sabrina Carpenter’s curtain bangs highlight her eyes.
Curled Curtain Bangs
A more recent trend is curly curtain bangs. Curly curtain bangs add spunk to the straight curtain bang cut. They begin shorter near the eyes and the outer hair pieces get longer. The bangs are curled with a small barrel curling iron and are parted in the center.
Last month SZA posted on social media a photo of herself wearing all white and pairing her outfit with brown boat shoes. In the photo she wears her curtain bangs in ringlet curls which flow nicely into her curly haired look.
Curled Faux Bangs
We continue to see curled bangs with celebrities like Katy Perry and Mariah Carey who show a faux bang style. Katy Perry dresses as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz for American Idol, and she styles her hair in a center part with thick face framing hair strands. Perry creates loose curls with the strands which fall slightly above the chin. This creates a look that resembles curtain bangs with a twist.
Faux-side swept bangs are up and coming. The face framing strands at the front of the face are an easy way to shape the face without committing to hair bangs.
For New Year’s Eve, Mariah Carey also styles medium length face-framing strands. In Carey’s faux-bang hairstyle, she parts her hair to the side of her face and the curly strands fall beside her jaw. To create these curly faux-bangs, the hair is cut in layers. The shortest strands starting at the center of the face and are cut to jaw length. Next, make a side part, and curl the shortest hair strands using a curling iron with a small barrel. Create loose curls and apply hairspray to the final look.
Blunted Bobs
In the blunted hair look, hair is cut without layers. Blunted hair creates a versatile hairstyle which can be a simple and elegant look or can create a sharp statement hairdo depending on how the hair is styled. In the Christmas Special of Masked Singer UK, Rita Ora wears a blunted long bob hairdo with her hair falling just above the shoulders. By flipping the ends of the hair outward, she creates a fun, spunky, and elegant hairstyle. Hailey Bieber also highlights this fashionable look through cutting her blunted hair into a chin-length bob. The sharp edges and short hairdo, creates a powerful look that others are sure to follow. We predict that blunted bobs are the next rising hair trend.
Textured Volume
Another hairstyle that is becoming popular is the textured volume hairdo. For this look the more volume the better. The textured look gives the hair additional volume and it also creates a more seductive and fun style.
Cher reveals her platinum blonde voluminous hair just before the release of her Christmas song, “DJ Play A Christmas Song.”
In her Jingle Ball outfit, she wore her hair in wavy strands that were crimped and defined at the top of her head, and fell into loose textured strands around her neck. Cher’s hairstyle is a wavy-meets straight hairdo with lots of texture and volume. This tight-meets loose crimped hairstyle could be a rising trend.
Headbands
Headbands are a hair accessory that we see becoming more popular in 2024. Celebrities like Olivia Rodrigo and Salma Hayek sport the headband trend. Last month on Jimmy Fallon, Rodrigo wears a blue puff headband. The “puff headband,” is a trending padded headband that gives height to the headband so that it lies just above the head rather than lying flat. Salma Hayek also joins the headband trend, and she wears a crystal headband at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures 3rd Annual Gala. Her hair has extra volume at the back of the head, just behind the hair accessory. The volume at the top-back portion of the head highlights the stunning headband.
Hair Bows
Hair bows are a rising hairstyle trend for 2024. Selena Gomez wears an oversized hair bow as she poses on the cover of Vogue Japan and Mexico. In a slicked back up-do we see her wearing various colorful oversized hair bows. The oversized hair bow is something to look for in the new year as it turns a simple updo into something elegant, graceful, and colorful.
