How to Maintain your Hair from Home

Don’t want people to know your true hair color?  Let us tell you a secret…

You are not alone.  We are all just weeks away from everyone knowing our true hair color.   In the past few days, we have spoken to a number of customers who are all nervous about their hair.  The number one question is should I color my hair at home? This question is typically followed by, I don’t want anyone to know this isn’t my natural color.

Riccardo and his team of experts have a definitive and overwhelmingly unanimous answer.

All of us once quarantine is over…

NO, PLEASE DON’T  TRY TO COLOR YOUR HAIR AT HOME.

Here are some reasons why you should NOT use box color at home.

  1. Box color sold over the counter never comes out looking as it does on the cover of the box

  2. If you do it at home, results are not guaranteed

  3. If you do take a chance and the color right you will need corrective color when you return to the salon and that is much more expensive, not to mention the amount of work and time you will need in order to have your hair color corrected.

What should you DO about your hair color until the salon opens.

Use a root touch up spray or powder. Our salon favorites are below and they are all easy to use and have simple instructions on the packaging.  These are all temporary and wash out after shampooing so you won’t have to worry about permanent repercussions.

  1. Oribe Root Touch Up Spray, approximately $32

  2. L’Oreal Magic Root Coverup, approximately $9.99

  3. Wella Recharge Root Concealer, Precise Color Powder, approximately $27

We may be able to sell these online shortly.  We will keep you posted.

Other tips to get you through till the salon re-opens:

  1. This is a great time to wear a hat, cap, scarf, hairband, clips etc. to hide your grays.

  2. Part your hair to hide your grays.  If your grays are in the back you can comb your hair back, your grays are on your left part your hair in that direction.  People with grays in the front of their hairline may want to wear a hair band, or wrap a hair scarf.

  3. Use this time to try out some new hairstyles! French or fishtail braids will help blend your roots into your hair in a way that looks intentional. Buns, ponytails and half-up/half-down looks can distract from the color.

  4. Wash your hair less often. Since you’re not going out as often, your hair is probably less oily and lived-in. Give it some time to breathe between washes so as to not fade your color and opt for dry shampoo in the meantime.

  5. Blow dry your hair when you get out of the shower and add some volume to your roots - they’re less obvious when they’re not laying flat and creating a straight line between your natural locks and your colored hair.

While worries about your hair are completely understandable, do your best not to panic! Try to use this time as an opportunity to get to know your hair better. Figure out which styles you like, try some root coverage products and play around with accessories.
